John is a multibeam sonar specialist and project geologist and is our lead data processor using Caris and Fledermaus; he also assists with creating products with ArcGIS. His expertise on coastal geomorphology helps to plan our surveys and quickly adapt to changing survey conditions while underway.
John came to USF in 2012 after graduating from the University of New Orleans with a B.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences concentrating in Coastal Processes and Restoration. He recently graduated with his Master’s in May of 2018. His thesis work utilized 15 years of episodic high resolution and ultra-high resolution multibeam bathymetry of the main shipping channel of Tampa Bay, as well as PORTS ADCP data, to model sand wave migration under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
In October 2018, Mr. Gray started a job at Stennis Space Center but continues to keep in touch with the project.
