Tampa Bay Surveillance Project

Investigating contaminants for human and environmental health.

Our study has 6 objectives

  • 1 – Undertake a series of field collections (water, sediments, invertebrates and vertebrate fishes) from Tampa Bay.

  • 2 Conduct macro and microscopic examinations of select fishes.

  • 3 – Use statistics to characterize associations between chemical contaminants.

  • 4 – Survey local people of the Tampa Bay region to determine patterns in seafood consumption.

  • 5 – Develop risk assessments for safer seafood consumption.

  • 6 – Inform environmental and water management agencies of findings and assist with developing appropriate management responses and longer term monitoring plans.
